Sport and Extramurals
Sport
Sport is a way of life in southern Africa, and sport plays a role in the daily life of the pupils at Waterberg Academy. It is used not only to assist in the overall development of the brain, but facilitates the opportunity to work in a team and develop sporting skills that may be used for life. Added to this, the old adage of a healthy body is part and parcel of a healthy mind, is relevant.
As a school, we provide opportunities for the maximum number of pupils to participate in as many different sports as possible. The physical and the educational benefits, which flow from a well-organised programme of sport, are immeasurable. Social and emotional needs are met and long-term positive attitudes are formed through satisfying and successful participation in sport.
The sports offered are listed as follows:

Cultural and Extra Mural Activities
A balance in life is considered a goal towards which most of us should strive to affect.
In keeping with this philosophy we offer and encourage participation in available cultural activities.
2010 marks the fourth year of participation in a major Eisteddfod (Art Festival). We have elected to join the local Warmbad Abracadabra Kunstefees instead of the National Eisteddfod Association (NEA) event, providing support to the local social workers fundraising initiative. Due to the size of our school, virtually every learner participates, often doing multiple items. We are proud of how well our learners excel in this event, competing on a par with Gauteng Schools.
Current activities include:
Adventure Sports
This is for those who enjoy the challenge of running, riding, canoeing, swimming and hiking.
Cycling
This sport is well supported traditionally by the boys, but is not exclusive.
The area provides many varied rides and the pupils are encouraged to take part in a number of cycle races.
Dance
This life skill is developed through modern dance and ballet; conducted privately.
Extra Art
This always attracts keen participation.
Herpetology
The area abounds in rich herpetological fauna and a strong interest has developed.
Karate
Conducted privately on the campus.
Music
Piano and other musical instruments – conducted privately. Junior choir
Ornithology
As with the reptile fauna, the area is rich in bird life and bird outings are a regular occurrence.
