Pre Primary

Our philosophy in the pre primary phase is “Free to be me “.

We encourage the children to learn through play and discovery.
Pre School is a preparation for life itself, and is more than likely the most important phase of all, as it lays the foundation for their whole future. It is the time when a child learns more than ever!

The aim of pre school education is to create a playing and learning environment which provides inspiring activities and opportunities for children to develop holistically.

There are three different components of development for all ages of children:

  • Social/Emotional development – involves the development of social skills, feelings and emotions.
  • Cognitive development: development of the mind and thinking skills.
  • Physical development: development of the body and motor skills.

All these components of development are equally important and are holistically integrated in pre school education.

We have three pre primary classes:

  • The Zebra class (Grade 000). Their teacher is Mrs. Joan Leonard, who has the patience of Job, and believe me she needs it. She also has 1½ - 2 year olds on a Thursday.
  • The Giraffe class (Grade 00) headed up by Mrs. Suzette Van Dyk, who is definitely the creative one.
  • The Kudu class (Grade R) is taught by Mrs. Sharon de Souza, whose claim to fame is to get each and every little person in her care as ready as she can for formal schooling in Grade 1.

There is never a dull moment in the Pre Primary. During the course of the week, the three classes all participate in Library, Baking, Baker day, Sotho, Music and Jollie Bollie, basic ball skills which equips them for any further sport they participate in. The Grade Rs also do swimming and computers.

We have many fun days: Mess day, Parent Activity day, Fun day, Mother's, Father's and Grandparent's day, concerts and the Nativity Play.

THE MIND OF A CHILD

The mind of a child is a beautiful place
An Eden where many things grow
A garden of beauty where, sheltered by love,
Grow flowers in row upon row.

The mind of a child is a wonderful place
Where wishes and dreams are so real,
Where kittens and puppies and gingerbread men,
Can talk and can actually feel.

The mind of a child is a mystical place
Where character grows like a tree,
And children become either better or worse
by the actions of you and me.
